This tutorial is intended to provide an overview of concepts on the internet of Things (IoT), which would foster the development and deployment to manage smart sensors and develop infrastructure. The recent technological advancements in sensors, wireless communications, low-power computing and the internet itself have led to a technical revolution called the Internet of Things. In recent past, we have seen a world being constantly filled with various smart things that are connected to the Internet of Things (IoT)/ in Cloud. As a result, a lot of research areas have emerged, amongst them, smart homes, wearable technology, industrial IoT, smartphones and intelligent transport systems to name a few. A closer look into the emerging areas indicates a trend to augment the physical devices or objects with sensing, computing, and its communication capabilities. These smart objects are connected together to form a network to make use of the collective effect of networked smart objects.
Dr Jayakumar Singaram:
Dr Jayakumar Singaram is a founding member of Rinanu Semiconductor. He was previously associated with Epigon Media Technologies, PiiTech Systems and GPTL. Dr Jayakumar is also an alumnus of IIT Bombay and has been on the forefront of the emerging trends in embedded systems and IOT, having worked with organizations like HAL (Helicopter Design Bureau), Cranes InfoTech, Mistral Solutions and Essel Utilities and some significant others over a career spanning across two decades. He has worked on key projects such as design and development of the Karaoke Machine (a project in collaboration with Analog Devices and MIT Media Lab) for TAITO Corp. He also worked on Satellite Radio Receiver for WorldSpace broadcast Satellites (and DAB Radio Receivers), using low-cost Digital Signal Processors.
