It is our pleasure to inform you that World Trade Center Bengaluru in association with Mr. Matthew McCartney, Professor of the Political Economy and Human Development of South Asia -University Of Oxford, is organising a talk on “Is the Indian Economic Boom Sustainable? Or is the Global Future Chinese?” on the 20th March 2019, 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the World Trade center Bengaluru.
The global news media in recent years has been dominated by the rise of China. By some estimates China is planning to invest $8 trillion in the New Silk Road. Where does India fit into this vision for the twenty-first century? Will India be marginalised or can India offer a democratic alternative for economic development in Asia?
Takeaway from the lecture:
- This lecture looks at whether the economic boom of the last fifteen years has created the foundations to sustain long-run economic growth.
- How will the deep determinants of economic growth - geography, institutions, culture, and openness –support India’s efforts to achieve the status of a developed country and lift the mass of the population out of poverty by the next generation?
