“Is the Indian Economic Boom Sustainable? Or is the Global Future Chinese?”
20th Mar 2019

It is our pleasure to inform you that World Trade Center Bengaluru in association with Mr. Matthew McCartney, Professor of the Political Economy and Human Development of South Asia -University Of Oxford, is organising a talk on “Is the Indian Economic Boom Sustainable? Or is the Global Future Chinese?” on the 20th March 2019, 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the World Trade center Bengaluru.

The global news media in recent years has been dominated by the rise of China. By some estimates China is planning to invest $8 trillion in the New Silk Road. Where does India fit into this vision for the twenty-first century? Will India be marginalised or can India offer a democratic alternative for economic development in Asia?

Takeaway from the lecture:

  • This lecture looks at whether the economic boom of the last fifteen years has created the foundations to sustain long-run economic growth.
  • How will the deep determinants of economic growth - geography, institutions, culture, and openness –support India’s efforts to achieve the status of a developed country and lift the mass of the population out of poverty by the next generation?
