Data Privacy - Moving Beyond Compliance

A webinar on "Data Privacy - Moving Beyond Compliance" was conducted in association with NASSCOM Tamil Nadu. Mr. Sukiraman Manivannan, Privacy Aficionado was the speaker. The session addressed data privacy from an ethical perception beyond mere compliance.

Mr. Sukiraman shared the result of a recent survey by Gartner Inc. -  that by 2023, 65% of the world's population's personal data will be covered under modern privacy regulations. He gave an overview of the privacy laws in various countries. He explained the features of the Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 that will come into effect in India in the near future. He also gave a roadmap for the participants to prepare their organisations for the bill. He stated that customer expectations and feedbacks should be taken as the leading indicators for the effectiveness of a privacy programme - he also stressed on the fact that there is a significant difference between the perception of customer expectations by the organisation and actual customer expectations. He explained the concept of care ethics and also gave an action matrix that will help organizations to abide by the four pillars of it - empathy , responsibility, competence and trust.
